In this sweltering summer, General Manager Yang Siyuan, along with 12 energetic TSH Biopharm employees, joined 16 seniors and volunteers from the Elder at Home Foundation for a Stone Marten Rice harvest in Tongluo, Miaoli. Among them, two seniors were as old as 80 and 90, yet their harvesting movements were still nimble, evoking memories of days gone by.

This year, TSH Biopharm supported environmentally friendly farming practices by contracting the watershed recovery of Stone Marten Rice, connecting with local farmers and promoting local revitalization. As we participated in the hands-on experience of harvesting in the fields, didn't it add a touch of human warmth to our future holiday gift-giving?

Furthermore, we specially launched a gift box containing rice and rice soap, and the #ElderatHomeFoundation sold 300 boxes. All proceeds, amounting to NTD 120,000 in 2024, were donated to the foundation. 50% will be used directly to support the foundation's daily operations, while the other 50% will be used to support the foundation's mobile resource vehicles, continuing TSH Biopharm's care for the elderly living alone in rural areas.

In 2024, the mobile resource vehicles visited Shigang, Shiding, Wulai, and Changhua Hemei, serving a total of 19 elderly individuals living alone in rural areas.

The first round of the mobile resource vehicle mission was undertaken by the Taichung sales team as volunteers, who joined the Elder at Home Foundation to visit Shigang and care for the elderly living alone in Shigang, Gukeng, and Heping areas. TSH Biopharm has always adhered to the principle of sustainable cultivation and has elevated love to every corner.

During this mission, a grandmother happily expressed her excitement at seeing so many people visit her and cheerfully sang a welcoming song. Another grandfather warmly reminded us, "Thank you for coming. If you pass by here in the future, be sure to stop by and say hello. Be careful when turning the corner!" Tears glistened in the eyes of the elderly, a mix of joy and hidden loneliness.

In the following second and third missions, despite encountering a fierce thunderstorm in the afternoon, and even small rivers forming on the mountain roads, these difficulties did not deter the enthusiasm of the TSH Biopharm volunteers. They persevered through the wind and rain, completing their mission. This year, we also welcomed two young student volunteers, allowing them to experience the meaning of "it is more blessed to give than to receive" from a young age.

These two mobile resource vehicles subsequently traveled to Shiding, Shenkeng, and Wulai areas, where they celebrated the 93rd birthday of an elderly grandmother and spread warmth in the Wulai tribe with ukuleles, receiving enthusiastic songs from the local indigenous people in return.

Thanks to the selfless dedication of all TSH Biopharm volunteers, each mobile resource vehicle mission has been filled with profound meaning.

In October this year, TSH Biopharm invited Dr. Wu Li-wei, director of the Department of Geriatric Medicine at Tri-Service General Hospital, to the Elder at Home Foundation's Shiding Center to deliver an exciting lecture on high blood pressure prevention to 30 elderly participants. The atmosphere was lively, and the elderly showed great concern for their own health, especially for blood pressure control. Dr. Wu's explanation was easy to understand, covering the causes, effects, and daily diet, exercise, and drug treatment of high blood pressure in detail.

Among them, the director emphasized the importance of exercise and encouraged the elderly to be more active. Many elderly people shared that they exercise regularly every day, and some even walk 8,000-10,000 steps a day, which was admirable. However, the director also reminded that walking 5,000-7,000 steps per day or continuous exercise for more than 10 minutes can be very beneficial for health, and there is no need to pursue numbers excessively.

Additionally, resistance exercises, such as tiptoeing, half-squats, and using water bottles for hand training, can effectively improve muscle mass and exercise quality. To help the elderly better understand blood pressure control knowledge, the director also introduced the "722" mnemonic: measure 2 times each morning and evening for 7 consecutive days, with an interval of 1 minute or more each time. Through this simple and easy-to-remember method, the elderly are encouraged to develop the habit of measuring their blood pressure every day and recording the data for the doctor to adjust the treatment plan more accurately.

However, many elderly people were confused about the values on the blood pressure monitor, such as the meaning of "diastolic pressure" and "systolic pressure." Through the doctor's explanation, the elderly had a clearer understanding of their blood pressure. At the same time, the daycare teachers also actively participated, learning how to correctly measure the blood pressure of the elderly and pay attention to abnormal conditions. This health education activity not only benefited the elderly but also enhanced the professional knowledge of the daycare teachers. The elderly expressed that they would pay more attention to their blood pressure after returning home and would record their daily measurements for reference during their next visit to the doctor. This event was not only a knowledge sharing but also a concern for the health of the elderly.
